I think this is a really practical and useful post. I like your approach and your conclusions.

One thing that I disagree with however is the idea that any of these bdd tests would reduce the number of unit tests you should be writing.

BDD is about working with others to make sure that your software satisfies a business need, even when those needs change. Unit testing is there to make sure that all the every chunk of code you write does what it's suppose to.

There's some pretty serious implications to using acceptance tests to validate the correctness of all your code. It basically doesn't work.

J.B. Rainsberger explains this fairly well in this video:

Arghhh. Thanks for spotting that. There are actually 2 hyphens there but it is being rendered as a single hyphen, however it prompted me to check https://rvm.beginrescueend.com/rubies/default/ and it seems rvm --default use 1.9.3 is the way to go. I'll change it and enclose it in a code element or gist.

Nice write-up. Had problems with step 4 - resolved by using "brew install git" instead of "brew git install". Thanks!

I like this post, well written, and good concept. Did you ever finish the blogging? I will check the rest of your board. I have done a lot with MVC/.NET and only a moderate/small amount with Rails. I have live sites/apps in both, but am trying to decide what to use on my next project. Keep posting!
